These can be overriden by rules specific of a game.

The deal starts with the person to the left of the dealer and so does both biding and play.

A trick is the cards from a round. After all players lay down a card and it’s determined who the winner is that is the trick.

Ace is high while a two is the lowest card.

Trump is the suit that outranks other suits. Typically an entire suit. For example, in Spades a two of spades outranks an ace of hearts even though a two is usually lower.

To win the round, the player who has the highest card of the lead suit wins, or the highest trump card if they were played.

So, it’s possible that a two can win if no trumps were played nor other cards of that lead suit.

Going set means a player or team didn’t take as many tricks as planned, took too many tricks (twice as much bid on plus at least one), or didn’t make their nilo (took a trick when they didn’t want one).
